Researchers examine phenomenon of bat-spread disease

Deutsche Welle – A team of German scientists works with Ghanaian colleagues deep in the African jungle to try and reduce the risks that bats pose to humans’ health. Deep green cocoa trees line the bumpy track down which Stefan Klose has to travel on his way to work. Shortly before dusk, the zoologist and his four colleagues park their 4WD vehicle at the side of the path. They check their equipment then set off through the Ghanaian jungle to a cave’s entrance. “We have to work quickly to get the nets in place,” Klose explained. “When the bats fly back to their cave after their evening meal, they get caught up in the transparent nylon mesh.” Read article
