Nepal: ‘Irregularities rife‚ deforestation rampant’

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today directed the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) to check rampant deforestation in the country. “According to past reports and the trend in the ministry, there has been huge irregularity while awarding contract to timber traders and district forest officers are also involved, so the ministry should arrange e-bidding process,” said CIAA. “It has been found that forest officers are involved in deforestation and they act in collusion with the timber traders in felling trees,” added CIAA.
